Here are some random thoughts for you…
German toilets… hateful things really. They are not like out nice civilized toilets where the things that expel from your body sit under water until flushed away … oh NO! … you basically do your business on a ledge which is rather high inside the bowl and then when finished the water sweeps it off the ledge into a whole at the front of the toilet. Sounds like it should be fine right? Well let me tell you the water in north American toilets helps a lot with the smell factor (I’ll leave it at that) and then there is the fact that even public washrooms have toilet brushes next to their handy German toilets. Why? You might ask… because you need one all the time because of the dry ledge scenario. Yep, this is much needed travel info for those of you romanticizing about German washrooms! However they do have cool soap dispensers and soap hangers as well… thankfully!
Today we called Frankfurt in an effort to secure an upgrade for the ride home on Tuesday into first class…. And Praise God we got them! Yeah God! As we are flying home Tuesday afternoon and doing laundry and repacking on Wednesday, then flying out Thursday AM again for Seattle we were really praying for upgrades so we can catch some rest before landing and going full speed ahead for another week.
Yesterday we went to Dresden and saw a number of castles and ate lots of bread and cheese. By the way if you don’t like bread and cheese then don’t visit Germany. Why AJ? what is the typical German food like? Well thanks for asking! it is something like this: Breakfast is bread, butter, cheese, jam and honey. Lunch you ask? Usually.. bread, butter, cheese, sandwich meats and the like. And dinner? Bread, butter, cheese, jam and honey. Notice any themes here? I am expanding while I type! Germany is not an Atkins friendly environment at all! J It’s a very good thing that the bread and cheese are really good!
Well I am off to soak and get ready for teaching tonight……
